AUTUMN WALKS

From this date on the nights are officially longer than the days. However it’s not all doom and gloom as the arrival of autumn means that we will soon be surrounded by gorgeous reds, oranges and browns on the trees.

Living in South West London means we are surrounded by many open spaces through which a stroll will open our senses to the autumnal colours.

Why not visit some of these parks and open areas:

Richmond Park is the largest Royal Park in London and is full of picturesque trees and wild life.

Hyde Park where you can take a stroll or sit by the Serpentine to watch the world go by. There is a glorious avenue of sweet chestnut trees running between the sandy track of Rotten Row and the Serpentine.

  • Bushey Park has many fallow dear living in harmony with the botanical life.
  • Kew Gardens has a vast variety of trees, plants and flowers.
  • Thames Path travels for many miles and provides stunning views over the Thames.
  • The Mall in Westminster is lined with beautiful trees with Buckingham Palace at the end.
  • Brompton Cemetery, c1840, is full of historic monuments, trees and wildlife. There are a few heritage cemeteries in London which are steeped in history and beauty.
  • Ruislip Woods is the biggest single area of woodland in Greater London.
  • Winkworth Arboretum. The collection of trees here was planted by Dr Wilfrid Fox in 1930s and has continued to grow in size over the past years due to the National Trust
  • Hampton Court Palace. In 1978 Hampton Court’s gardeners planted a vine to supply King George 111 with Black Hamburg grapes. 250 years later it is the biggest surviving vine in the world with its own greenhouse and keeper. Every autumn you can buy the grapes from the walled garden. The palace gardens are full of blazing trees.
  • There is also the Surry Hills just down the A3

So there are many beautiful areas quite close to home for us to visit.
