Paediatric Physiotherapy in Wimbledon

Specialist Children’s Physiotherapy (Ages 8+) – Accredited KidsBack2Sport Clinic

At Wimbledon Physiotherapy, we understand that kids are not mini adults. Our physiotherapists are KidsBack2Sport-accredited and trained in child-specific musculoskeletal rehabilitation, helping children aged 8 and up recover safely, move freely, and get back to the sports and play they love.

Whether your child has been injured on the pitch, in the playground, or after a growth spurt, we provide age-appropriate, evidence-based physiotherapy that restores strength, confidence, and coordination.

Why Children Need a Different Approach

Children’s bodies and brains develop at lightning speed, building bones, growing muscles, and rewiring movement patterns daily. They require care that’s both playful and precise.

  • Growing Bones: Kids experience unique injuries such as Sever’s disease and Osgood-Schlatter’s, which occur only during growth phases.

  • Neuroplasticity: Children’s brains adapt rapidly, with the right rehab, we can retrain movement and coordination faster than in adults.

  • Coordination in Progress: As kids master new sports and movement skills, they can develop temporary imbalances. Our sessions rebuild confidence and healthy patterns before bad habits set in.

Common Injuries We Treat

We regularly help children recover from:

  • Sever’s disease (heel pain from growth-related tendon strain)

  • Osgood-Schlatter’s disease (knee pain below the kneecap)

  • Anterior knee pain and overuse injuries

  • Ankle sprains and instability

  • Fracture rehabilitation — especially after cast removal

  • Muscle strains, growing pains and movement control issues

We also support children with sports-specific pain, poor coordination, or anxiety after injury.

What Does Paediatric Rehab Involve?

Our child-centred rehabilitation follows a structured, confidence-building process:

Initial Assessment

  • Thorough diagnosis and growth-phase screening

  • Child-parent-team rehab planning

  • Referral for imaging or consultant support if needed

Phase 1: Settle & Strengthen
Reduce pain, swelling and fear through gentle, brain-based movement drills.

Phase 2: Rebuild & Retrain
Restore strength, balance, and mobility through fun, task-specific exercise.

Phase 3: Return to Play
Simulate the real demands of sport — jumping, running, pivoting and play.

Phase 4: Prevention & Performance
Keep your child strong, adaptable and ready for anything.

What Is the #1 Mistake That Makes Knee Pain Worse?

Knee pain often becomes long-term not because of the injury itself, but because of how it’s managed afterwards, either too much rest or pushing through pain—both of which can slow recovery and increase stiffness.
