Traditional Chinese Acupuncture

Kelly Sun has just joined our team at the Wimbledon Physiotherapy Clinic and been practicing Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine in London and China for 20 years and is a member of both the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) and the General Council of Traditional Chinese Medicine (GCTC).

She has built on the success of her parent’s medical practice in China, as they passed a great deal of their experience in TCM and western medicine to her. With 20 years experience in treating people suffering from chronic and acute diseases, she is now providing Traditional Chinese Medicine here at Wimbledon Physiotherapy Clinic with the aim of introducing as many people as possible to the benefits it can offer (see our Traditional Chinese Acupuncture case studies). Her treatments, based on both Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western medicine, have a history of very good results. The combination is very beneficial to patients and allows treatment to be tailored to individual needs.

Traditional Chinese medicine is an ancient traditional form of medicine practiced in China for around 3000 years. It is based on the balance of Qi and Blood, Yin and Yang, the balancing forces of the cyclical extremes of everything in nature, i.e. day and night, winter and summer, hot and cold etc. These basic forces are constantly moving or transforming in order to retain the balance of the whole.

The aim of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which includes acupuncture, herbal medicine, cupping and moxibustion, is to treat the person rather than the disease. The treatment focuses on the whole body rather than on symptoms, and this approach can result in a successful treatment and a marked improvement in well being.

The Chinese believe that acupuncture treatments redirect or unblock the flow of Qi (vital energy) through the body. It can be effective in treating many health problems including asthma, headaches, menstrual problems, stress, pain, skin problems and digestive problems. The World Health Organisation recognizes more than one hundred conditions that can be helped by acupuncture.

Kelly Sun is especially interested in treating infertility, menopause, chronic pain, stress, musculo-skeletal problems, skin and nervous system problems for both men and women. Treatment starts from pulse and tongue diagnosis, which can pinpoint the underlying imbalances in the body’s system. The initial consultation lasts approximately 20-30 minutes, including a discussion of the patient’s diet, exercise and lifestyle issues. The treatment is 30-40 minutes.

Kelly Sun believes a good working relationship between practitioner and patient, exchanging clear information is the key to effective treatment. It is amazing what results can be and have been achieved.
