BIODEX Balance System

This amazing piece of equipment, the first in the UK with updated software, is now installed at Wimbledon Physiotherapy Clinic.

The BIODEX balance system is used to assess and train the balance of patients, allowing them get back on their feet and feel less at risk of further injury.

Why do we want it?

To give our patients the best possible treatment in their quest to return to their full functional aims.

What’s great about it?

This equipment is used in premiership football clubs for pre-season baseline testing of the player’s balance, determining ankle and knee status, and assessing the player’s ability to return post injury i.e. return to pre-season baseline.

Do I have to have a sports injury to get the benefit from this equipment?

No – This equipment is ideal to help improve people’s balance for all reasons e.g. people who feel their balance has deteriorated, or osteoporotic patients who feel more at risk of fractures if they fall and therefore want to be very proactive in prevention.

Is it only for assessment of balance?

No – we can also use the equipment to train your balance with:

  • Proprioception and stabilisation exercises
  • Range of motion exercises
  • Weight shift training
  • Core stability

How does the machine work?

It evaluates your neuromuscular control by quantifying the ability to maintain dynamic postural stability on an unstable surface.

The equipment has a computer screen which enables you to have visual feedback, which prompts your balance and postural control. There is a variety of stability levels, and up to 20 degrees of support surface tilt which provides progressive stimulation of joint receptors.

We can record your data and print out a copy of your measurements for your file, and for you to take home on your progress.
