What is pilates?

Pilates was developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates. His technique focuses on strengthening the abdominal, back, and pelvic muscles, which are essential for keeping the body balanced and supporting the spine.

Pilates involves a series of low impact strengthening and conditioning exercises, which are particularly effective in preventing back pain and aiding recovery from back pain. By re-aligning your spine and improving your posture, lower back pain can often be eliminated altogether.

The benefits of pilates extend beyond improved strength, muscle tone and the energy which comes with a great workout. The breathing and relaxation which are taught alongside the exercises will encourage you to develop an awareness of how your body works and help you to focus your mind.

Who is pilates for?

It’s not just women of all ages and levels of fitness who benefit from pilates but men aswell. The technique has long been used by professional sportsmen, footballers, cricketers, rowers and rugby players alike to recover from injury, improve fitness and promote wellbeing.
