Physiotherapy treatment and what to expect
On your first visit you will be with the Physiotherapist for up to 1 hour, depending on your condition. On entering the Clinic you will be given a form to complete asking for your details, who referred you/how you heard about the Clinic and your insurance details.
The Physiotherapist will then take you into one of the four treatment rooms and ask you what you believe to be your main complaint which has caused you to attend the Clinic, when and how your condition started, what has happened since and whether you have seen a GP/Consultant and had any investigations done. The Physiotherapist will need to know any relevant past medical history that may effect treatment, any medication you are taking (worth bringing this information to the Clinic) and what activities you are able to do at present/work situation.
The Physiotherapist will then examine the area involved. For a neck, mid back or arm complaint you will be asked to remove your top (down to your bra if you are female) and if the problem is your low back you will be expected to get undressed to your underwear (bring shorts if you wish). If it is a lower limb complaint, shorts would be advisable so you can be treated in the gym area. If you forget to bring shorts we have spare pairs of communal ones!!!
The Physiotherapist will examine your movement of the area, move the area themselves, palpate the area and perform any relevant movement/sensation tests, all of which will be controlled by yourselves. After the examination the Physiotherapist will formulate a problem list, a treatment plan and some goals for treatment which will be explained and shown to you. The Physiotherapist will need to carry out this essential paperwork during your appointment and we ask that you bear with us whilst this is completed.
How do you perform treatment?
All our staff are Chartered Physiotherapists. This means we have achieved a standard of qualification acceptable by our governing body, The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
We are a very manual (hands on) Physiotherapy Clinic using different mobilisations and soft tissue techniques. Four of our Physiotherapists are also qualified in acupuncture, which may be offered to you as part of your Physiotherapy treatment. We have gym facilities for rehabilitation and all our rooms have ultrasound and interferential machines if you require electrotherapy.
