Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy is the treatment of patients in a warm water (body temperature) pool providing individually tailored exercise and rehabilitation programs to suit the needs and the aims of the patient.

Exercising in warm water has a number of therapeutic qualities:

The warmth helps the muscles to relax and can alleviate spasms

The weightlessness you experience in water decreases pain and reduces stress on the joints

The buoyancy produced by the water helps assist (or resist) movement

General sense of well being

Our physiotherapists are specialised in practicing hydrotherapy so you can be assured of a professional and personal service. Your condition will be assessed and a therapy programme will be designed specifically to meet your needs. The programme will take into account your level of mobility and confidence in the water - it doesn’t matter if you are not a swimmer.

Hydrotherapy can be practiced either independently or in conjunction with land-based treatment.

Many of our clients like to carry out their exercises in between sessions or continue with their programme after hydrotherapy treatment has ceased.

We also run group sessions, so you can carry out your exercises in the presence of a qualified physiotherapist who can offer reassurance and advice. To help the participants in these groups continue with their programmes we use PhysioTools© - a specially designed computer programme, to provide you with clear pictures and instructions of your exercises.

Hydrotherapy is particularly effective for treating:

Musulosketetal injury

Muscle weakness

Balance Disorders

Soft tissue injuries

Sports Injuries

Back Pain

Post operative rehabilitation

Muscle and Joint problems

The pool is accessible to all with shallow steps, hand rails and state of the art hoists.

If you experience any of the conditions mentioned above or think you might benefit from Hydrotherapy please contact us to arrange an initial assessment.
