Children's Physiotherapy

In addition to treating adults, all of our physiotherapists are experienced in the assessment and treatment of children. For acute, developmental, and neurological conditions in children, we also have a visiting specialist children’s physiotherapist with 9 years of experience in this field.

How is physiotherapy with a child different to an adult?

It is essentially very similar however there are some selected treatment techniques and principles that will be different due to a child’s growing body.

What ages do you treat?

We can see any child between the ages of 0 - 16 years.

Where will the appointment be?

The appointment will take place either at our clinic or in your own home. Different prices will apply depending on the appointment location.

What will happen at the appointment?

You and your child will be asked a number of questions relating to your child’s presenting problem, general health and lifestyle. Then with your consent the physiotherapist will examine your child’s joints, muscles and other tissues. Your child may be asked to undress down to their underwear.

How long does the appointment last?

The first appointment may last up to an hour. Follow up appointments will be 30 min. We may ask that any child under the age of 16 attend with a parent or legal guardian.

What happens at the end of the appointment?

At the end of the examination your physiotherapist will explain what they have found and you will have the opportunity to ask questions. Agreed goals will be set and a physical management programme will be devised to attain the goals. Your co-operation in ensuring your child complies with these exercises is vital to a successful outcome.
